HISTORY OF MONRIK WINES
THE BEGINNING
The adventorous Myhre story begins in Shanghai, where the Norwegian born ,Hans Gustav Myhre moved in 1988 and served as Harbour Master 1918-1923. (photos from 1902 and 1918)
His son, Erik Myhre, later founded the family’s travel agency, continuing a legacy shaped by travel and instinct. His son, Erik Myhre, later founded the family’s travel agency, continuing a legacy shaped by travel and instinct. (photos from 1950-1960)
DISCOVERING LANZAROTE
In 1968, Hans Gustav Myhre Junior arrived in Lanzarote. It was July. It was raining, a rare sight for the locals but not for Myhre from Norway.Still, within 24 hours, he had bought two holiday homes and a 20-decare plot in a place few knew.He didn’t just visit Lanzarote, he recognized it.
Hans Gustav was responsible for building three complexes on the island: Club del Mar, Eldorado and Panorama. Together with his wife, Trinelise, they lived in one of the apartments they kept from these developments until their passing.(Photos from receiving an award from Ministry of industry and tourism, working in travel with automatization in 1985 and building Eldorado in Lanzarote 1971)

FINDING LOCAL WINES
Their daughter Monica and her husband Henrik, later took over the apartment. After the pandemic in 2019, the property required renovation, bringing them back to the island.
It was during one of these visits that Henrik discovered and fell in love with the island’s wines. While searching for bottles that were only available directly at the wineries, he once left with a case of wine — but suddenly turned around. An idea had struck him.
He went back and asked the winery one simple question:
Could you export?
As they say, the rest is history.
oh, one little detail the name Monrik comes from combining the names Monica and Henrik, they are also both designers but that's another story. (Pictures from Lanzarote and visiting Althay 2025)
